Cloud Computing is being pushed as companies, large and small, jump into the arena.

What is cloud Computing? It is defined this way: “Cloud computing is Internet-based computing, whereby shared resources, software and information are provided to computers and other devices on-demand, like electricity.” Furthermore, it is defined as “On-demand self-service Internet infrastructure where you pay-as-you-go and use only what you need, all managed by a browser, application or API. Cloud computing is broken up into multiple segments including: Cloud Infrastructure, Cloud Platforms and Cloud Applications.”

At CeBit 2011 (the biggest IT trade show in the world), practically every vender had something to show off under the Cloud Computing umbrella. Not the least were of course all the Tablet computers which use apps (applications) all hosted somewhere on the Internet. Take for example the iPad2, a devise which does a lot but isn’t a conventional Computer as we know it. (Meaning we don’t load software onto it or do many of the conventional things we do with computers. Instead, much of it’s worth is based on the Apps (applications) we buy or download for it, all of which are run on the Internet somewhere – a Cloud Computing experience.)

ASIDE: Great video on the iPad2 is here: http://www.apple.com/ipad/

Is all this good for us? There are of course many privacy issues. There are many missionaries around the world who must be very careful of these types of apps which of course want a ton of information about us, since they also want money from us. And of course that is a second huge issue – just how expensive is all this going to get. Someone has to pay for the servers and development of the software we want to use. While many will see it as fair to pay nominal fees for using the services, it becomes obvious quite quickly that it is not for the poor!

Despite the negatives, there are of course many advantages and certainly many cool tools, toys and helpful applications. But it will take a savy public to make sure some privacy exists and that costs don’t get out of control.

The thrust of this website has always been one of education. In the past while it was specifically educating about Pandemic flu, however, I want to use this site to reflect my own mission in life.

It’s going to take a while to re-shape this site (and get back some of the friends and faithful followers we used to have) but it will come. Please bare with me as I work on the logistics of this, creating new categories and sections, and in general doing some spring cleaning.

Thanks, Ron

PS. Advocacy is the active support of an idea or cause etc.; especially the act of pleading or arguing for something.

Advocacy is the pursuit of influencing outcomes — especially on behalf of those who have little hope of influencing outcomes for themselves.

The advocate is one arguing in favour of, or supporting something; the practice of supporting someone to make their voice heard.

An advocate is someone who speaks on behalf of another person, especially in a legal context. It is used in reference to the system of Scots law, Anglo-Dutch law, Scandinavian and Israeli law, among others.

Not sure what went wrong, I suspect something with this new theme (the new look) wasn’t quite right …

It would also be helpful to know if you find this new theme or look helpful — meaning, is it readable, easy to use, enough information, too much, etc etc. Leave a comment and let me know.
